The Christmas atmosphere is already in full swing in London this year with shop windows glittering with holiday decorations, late night shopping and of course the famous lights are now on. Regent Street Christmas lights are among the most well-known lights displays in the UK.

Last year I decided to capture the lighting display at night, as you can see below it was very cold so I had to wear multiple layers and a heavy winter jacket.

Essential gear & tips for cold weather photography :

  • Wide angle lens – Anything up to 24mm
  • Experience of long exposure photography
  • Sturdy Tripod
  • Timer Remote Controller
  • Optional ND Filter
  • Spare batteries – remember batteries drain quicker in the cold
  • Try fingerless gloves

and you will need lots of patience…

I’m planning another visit in a few weeks time and look forward to sharing this years display with you…
